Emergency Closing InformationWeather Cancellation Phone Number: 860-626-6808
University of Connecticut On any day that severe weather threatens, the campus director will monitor the forecast and actual weather conditions on campus, and confer with other campus departments (Extension Center, Co-Op, Library) and staff to determine if it is necessary to cancel classes or close the campus. It is helpful to know about the weather conditions across the broad area that our campus community travels, so if you have first-hand information regarding a declining weather situation, please share that information with the Director’s Office. As soon as a decision has been made to cancel classes, the announcement will be recorded on the Torrington Campus Snow Line (860-626-6808). Students, faculty and staff can call this number at any time to hear a recorded message regarding the status of classes & events. IMPORTANT: Determinations to cancel classes do not close the campus; staff members should exercise their best judgment regarding driving in winter weather conditions. Non-essential staff may opt to use accrued vacation time (in accordance with the policies of their bargaining unit) and/or make alternate work arrangements with their direct supervisor if they want to make an adjustment to their regular work schedule in an inclement weather situation. In extreme situations, the campus director may decide to close the campus. If ever there is a situation that warrants closing the campus, it will be specifically noted in the recording on the Snow Line and employees should not report to work. Some bargaining units need to use a special payroll code on their time cards following these situations, and should contact with the Director’s Office with any questions. Cancellation and delay information will be posted on the home page of the UConn Torrington website, as well as to the radio and TV stations listed here: http://www.torrington.uconn.edu/about/closing.html PLEASE NOTE: Due to the limitations of some of the network reporting systems (where we can only choose AM or PM classes cancelled, for instance) the *best* place to check for information is always the Snow Line, as we can record a detailed message specific to our campus. Please share any feedback on the Torrington Campus Inclement Weather Policy with the Director’s Office, 860-626-6803.
